Dominion Stage 2026 Playwright Competition

Dominion Stage is pleased to announce our seventh annual playwright competition has begun! To enrich our community and continue to be an inclusive place for new and continued education and personal development, we are looking for talented playwrights to submit their work.

Plays may be about any subject, but we are not looking for musicals at this time.
- The winning one-act playwright(s) will have their play produced by Dominion Stage as a free staged reading. 
- Dominion Stage will produce a fully staged production of the winning full-length play as the final show of season 78. 

To ensure the adjudicators have sufficient time to read their assigned scripts, we will be enforcing a strict limit on entries.
- Contestants may submit up to one (1) full-length and/or one (1) one-act script.
- Please note more than one submission within either category will disqualify the applicant from being selected.
- The use of AI is prohibited and will result in the entry being disqualified.

Applications are currently being accepted & will close July 15, 2026 at midnight.
- There is a separate capacity limit for full-length and one-act plays.
- Once the maximum number of each category is reached, the application site will close.

CONTEST RULES
1. Participation is open to all ages.
2. By submitting a one-act play entry, the playwright is granting permission to Dominion Stage to produce a free script reading of their submission.
3. By submitting a full-length play entry, the playwright is granting permission to Dominion Stage to produce up to 8 performances of their submission. The playwright will receive $1 per full price ticket sold as artistic compensation. 
4. Playwrights may submit up to 1 one-act AND/OR 1 full-length play.
5. Entries should be an original, unpublished work. 
6. Entries must be an original full-length play that is no longer than 2 hours in length, OR a one-act play that is no longer than 60 minutes in length.
7. Submissions must be in PDF format.
8. Entries may be any genre except musical.
9 Entries must be received by the deadline (15 JULY 2026) to be considered.
10. All entries are final.
